It’s hard to find someone who doesn’t have a word to say about Internet Explorer. Its reputation is so bad that Microsoft had to rethink its Windows 10 approach. A massive, free operating system upgrade was the perfect time for Microsoft to drop Internet Explorer. Microsoft Edge is what Windows 10 offers to users today. Edge recently received a much-needed feature: users now have the option to block ads in Microsoft Edge for Windows 10.
Internet Explorer is still used by millions, but Microsoft has no plans to upgrade it in any way. Edge performs better when running on battery power. Touch and mouse are supported, which means users no longer need to keep switching between two different browsers with their own quirks. New to the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Microsoft Edge now allows users to block add-ons.
Here’s how to block ads in Microsoft Edge for Windows 10.
Block Ads in Microsoft Edge – Before You Begin
There are some prerequisites to blocking ads in Microsoft’s new browser. Most importantly, Windows 10 does not include Edge’s ad-blocking feature by default.
The feature that blocking ads is based on is called Extensions. Unfortunately, it didn’t end in time to arrive with Windows 10 last summer. Instead, it’s included in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. Before you can block ads in Microsoft Edge, you need an update, so it’s great that the upgrade is completely free for anyone with Windows 10.
Also note that you must have access to Microsoft’s Windows Store. Extensions are like apps in that they are only available through the Windows Store. If you don’t plan to use Microsoft Edge, there are other options for blocking ads with Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
Blocking Ads in Microsoft Edge
Unlock your Windows PC and click on the Windows button on the screen to bring up the Start Screen.
Inside the Start Screen/Start Menu, tap or click the tile. It will be a square or rectangle with a shopping bag on it. Depending on how you have configured your computer, you may need to follow the application in the alphabetical list of installed applications on the left side of the Start Menu. Also note that things will look different in Startup in Tablet Mode. You will have to tap the menu button to bring up the list of installed apps.
Search in the store. If you have never used a Microsoft Account on your device, you will now need to add one. There is also AdBlock Plus, an enhanced version of the standard plugin made especially for advanced users. You don’t necessarily need the power of AdBlock Plus to block ads while surfing the web.
Download AdBlock from the Windows Store. Wait for its installation.
Now tap or click the button.
After clicking the start button you should be taken to Microsoft Edge. Tap or click the button.
Wait for AdBlock to install. Here you can make some monetary contribution to the extension team, but this is not required.
This much. From this point on, ads are blocked on your Windows 10 PC. You can always return to the Extensions area to disable AdBlock and allow ads to return to your websites. In addition, there are settings to block annoying ads and allow reasonable ads to pass. Most websites shouldn’t require you to block all ads.
Associated with it; some sites stop working when they detect an installed ad blocker. In these cases, you need to disable Adblock by tapping or clicking the button.
