Overuse charges are the worst, especially when you don’t see them coming. Here’s how to avoid paying overage fees, or at least pay as little as possible to use extra data.
Like most carriers today, Verizon’s More Everything plans come with a limited monthly amount of data, and the more you pay, the more data you have to play with. That said, you’re probably like most users and want to pay as little as possible on your monthly bill, so you probably only have a few gigabytes to play with. It means you have to be careful not to exceed your monthly data allocation while also saving money, as you may be charged with redundancy fees.
Verizon charges $15 per 1GB for overusage fees. This means that if you normally have 3GB of data per month and exceed that, Verizon will add 1GB for that month for $15, so you now have 4GB for the month even though you pay a lot more for it. If you were to go over 4GB, Verizon would add another 1GB for $15 more. Without even realizing it, you were charged an extra $30 per month. Yeah!
Fortunately, Verizon has ways to avoid paying redundant fees, or at least pay less than $15 per 1GB if you exceed your monthly data allowance. Here’s how you can avoid going over your data limit and what you can do if you do.
Monitor Your Data Usage
The best way to prevent you from exceeding your monthly data allowance is to monitor your data usage closely and continuously each month. This is easier than ever before thanks to the new iOS 8 widget.
Normally, Verizon customers could (and still can) search for their data usage by opening the Verizon app on their device, but a new iOS 8 widget allows users to quickly check their data usage without opening the app in the app. first place.
Verizon recently updated its iPhone app with a cool new feature that lets you quickly check your data usage with a simple swipe in Notification Center. There are a few great widgets you can add to your device’s Notification Center in iOS 8, but Verizon’s new widget is perhaps the most useful one we’ve come across yet.
To get the widget, you need to download the My Verizon Mobile app to your iPhone. This is a free application and is available at: iTunes App Store.
After downloading the app, open it and you will be prompted to sign in to your Verizon account. Once inside, you’ll be able to access your Verizon account and see how much data you’ve used, but we’ll want to see this information even without opening the app.
After downloading the Verizon app and logging into your Verizon account, you can now enable the Verizon iOS 8 widget in your iPhone’s Notification Center. To open your iPhone’s Notification Center, simply swipe down from the top of the screen. If you’re not there yet, tap the tab at the top. Tap the bottom button. Scroll down until you see it in the list and tap the green plus icon next to it.
This item will now move up and from there you can rearrange the order by tapping and holding the icon on the right and dragging it up or down the list. Tap on the top right corner to finish.
The Verizon iOS 8 widget will now appear in the Notification Center and will quickly show you your monthly data usage. If you want more details about your data usage, you can tap the widget itself to automatically open the Verizon app. Otherwise, the widget will show you how much data you’ve used compared to how much data you’ve reserved for the month.
Prepare in Advance
If you think you’re going to exceed your data allowance for the month, you can increase your data plan for the month only temporarily so you don’t have to pay more expensive overage fees.
For example, most of the tiers on Verizon’s Everything More plans leave at $10 per month, so upgrading to the next tier for just one month will save you $5, as overage fees start at $15.
To do this, log into your Verizon account. on VerizonWireless.com and you will be redirected to your account page. In the left sidebar, there will be several links that you can click. Find what is said and click it.
You will be taken to a page where you can change your data plan. Simply upgrade to the next tier to avoid paying an overage fee for that month. Then, when you move to the next month, you can take it back to where you had it before.
Don’t Sweat Too Much
In the end, if you exceed your data allowance, don’t bend over too much. If you forgot to temporarily upgrade your data plan, you’ll only pay $5 more than you remember to do.
Of course, if you overdo it and pay the surcharges, this will give you an adequate wake-up call so you know you shouldn’t go over the limit again, so you don’t get too overwhelmed when you discover you’re using it. much more than your monthly data allowance. You can always increase your plan for just $10 a month, or you can reduce your data usage by jumping to WiFi more often.
