How to Add Multiple Numbers to a Single Contact in iOS 7

You probably have tons of contacts, and each of these people likely has multiple phone numbers and email addresses (like a home phone number and a work number). Everyone has their own system for managing this kind of chaos, but iOS 7 makes it really simple and organized, and it’s really easy to add multiple numbers to a single contact.

You also have the ability to merge duplicate contacts if your current system includes one contact per phone number. So, you have one Bob Smith with a home phone number and another Bob Smith with a work phone number. You can easily combine these two so that both numbers are listed under one contact. Here’s how to do all this.

Adding Multiple Numbers to a Single Contact

In iOS 7 (as in previous iOS versions, you can have multiple phone numbers and email addresses associated with a single contact. First, start opening the app to see the list of all your contacts. Also, open the App and tap the tab at the bottom to go to the same screen.

If you’re starting with a new contact, tap the sign in the upper right corner and enter your contact’s name. Next, you will see a field that says. Tap that and enter one of the contact’s phone numbers. Tap on it on the left to specify what type of number it is (an option for home, work, fax, or even iPhone).

After entering the number and giving a label, tap in the upper right corner. You will see that person’s number listed and you will be able to add another number just below where you see it again. Repeat the above process to add a second number and so on. You can do the same with the email address just below.

This also works when editing an existing contact. Just tap on their name and hit the top right corner. You will then be able to add another phone number to the list.

Merge Multiple Numbers into One Contact

Let’s say you’ve already dug yourself a hole and have duplicate contacts, but different phone numbers (because you didn’t know you could associate multiple numbers with a single contact). All hope is not lost here. To open it, simply tap one of these contacts, tap the top right corner, and then scroll all the way down until you see the section titled.

Tap on it to start merging multiple contacts into one. You will then be given your contact list where you will select a duplicate contact. Tap one and then press the upper left corner. These two people will now merge into one person. Tap in the upper right corner to complete the process.
