How to Add Free Data to Your Verizon Plan

Verizon’s Smart Rewards program recently added the ability to redeem your rewards points for extra data on your More of Everything plan. Here’s how to do it.

if you haven’t heard Verizon’s Smart Rewards program, essentially, is the carrier’s own loyalty program where you earn points to pay your bill, upgrade your device, and more. You can then use these points to get discounts on gift cards, various products and hotels, participate in sweepstakes, and bid on valuable Verizon coupons at auctions.

However, the carrier has recently added the ability to use these points to add more data to your More than Everything plan. Spending 5,000 points adds 1GB of data to your plan for at least one full billing cycle. That’s actually a pretty good deal, considering it normally costs $10 to temporarily add 1GB of data to your plan, 5,000 Verizon Smart Reward points equates to about $5.

Here’s how to add free data to your Verizon More Everything plan as a Verizon customer in the first place.

Sign Up and Start Earning

If you haven’t signed up for Verizon’s Smart Rewards program yet, visit: awards.verizonwireless.com and sign in using your Verizon login credentials.

After signing up, you will be taken to the Smart Rewards homepage where you will see many different ways you can redeem your points. However, to spend them, you must first earn points. The good thing is that when you first sign up for Smart Rewards, Verizon gives you up to 15,000 points, which is enough to get free data.

If you don’t have a score yet, don’t worry. These are really easy to earn and all you have to do is remain a Verizon customer. Paying your monthly statement gives you 10 points per dollar, and if you have the More than Everything plan, you get an extra 50 points per dollar. From that alone, you’ll quickly realize that earning points doesn’t require much effort, other than remembering to pay your bill.

Add Free Data to Your Plan Using Points

Once you have at least 5,000 points, you can add this free 1GB data to your plan. To do this, start by clicking the big red banner at the top of the Smart Rewards homepage.

On the next page, click it and 1GB of data will be automatically added to your Everything More plan. This data persists for at least one full billing cycle, depending on when you add it, and may also be shared with other users on your More than Everything plan.

Adding an extra 1GB of data can be a life saver if your data is running low and you need an extra boost before the billing cycle ends. This will definitely save you from paying the overdraft fees starting at $15 for every 1GB you use during that month.
