The best thing about any smartwatch, especially the Apple Watch Series 6 smartwatch, is that the watch face can be changed to your liking thanks to watchOS 7. You can choose from a range of watch faces – be it a cute Disney inspired model. clock dial or just an elegant clock dial with clock hands. And guess what? You can now add custom watch faces to your Apple Watch.
There are two ways for this. First, you can tweak and replace existing watch faces. For example, you can add a photo from your phone’s gallery to add a personal touch to your watch. Or you can install a third-party app like Facer to add custom watch faces to your Apple Watch.
At the same time, you can change the complications according to your preference. Complications for the unaware are the little information on the watch face. For example, the battery percentage in the upper left corner is a complication.
Now that we’ve figured it out, here’s how you can add and customize watch faces.
How to Add Custom Watch Faces to Apple Watch
Method 1: Via the Built-in Gallery
The Watch app’s Face Gallery opens the door to dozens and dozens of watch faces. The best part is that they are well categorized and make it easy to find what you like. Besides the available faces, the Watch app also lets you add photos and emojis to these watch faces. If this method interests you, follow the steps below.
Stage 1: Open the Watch app on your iPhone and tap the Face Gallery tab. Now, scroll down until you see the Photos option. Tap on it to select.
Step 2: Then tap on the Album or Photos option at the bottom to select the photos.
For now, you can select up to 24 individual photos. When done, tap the Add button.
Stage 3: Now scroll down to edit complications. Tap one of the two options and choose your preferred complication.
Here Compass, Reminders, Heart Rate etc. You get options like Choose the two complications that best suit your needs.
When done, tap Add to add the watch face you just designed to My Watch.
Step 4: Now, go to My Watch to see the new watch face. Tap to select.
Scroll down and select Set as Current Watch Face. The best part is that if you choose Live Photos, you can see the moments leading up to the photo.
You can also follow the steps above for the Memoji watch face.
But at the end of the day, Photos Watch Face doesn’t give you as many options as other watch faces. You just lay with two complications to play and that’s it. Besides that, the fully illuminated display can also be a great battery saver.
So, if you want countless things to show up when you lift your wrist, your best bet would be to fix the complications of some of the existing watch faces.
To do this, choose any of the watch faces. In our case, we chose to go with Meridian watch faces. These watch faces have 3-4 complications, making it easy to keep the important stuff on top.
All you have to do is choose the complications according to your taste. When you’re done, tap Add and then apply the watch face to your watch.
Method 2: Via Third-Party Apps
As mentioned earlier, third-party apps like Facer also allow you to add custom watch faces to your Apple Watch. Facer is a free app and comes with both free and paid watch faces. Naturally, the free version has fewer options when it comes to customizing the watch face. For example, you can add only one complication.
However, if you’re planning to upgrade, Facer opens its doors for more customization options and watch face layouts.
Stage 1: Open Facer and switch to the Home tab. Tap the ‘Create your own design’ button at the top.
step 2: Choose one of the watch faces and tap the Plus icon. This will show you all the complications you can add. Choose one according to your preference.
Repeat the above step for complications. To do this, tap one of the shapes.
Stage 3: Once everything is added, tap the Blue icon in the middle to push the watch face to the Watch app.
Again, the usual rules apply. To apply the new watch face, go to the Watch app.
Facer has a mix of free and paid watch faces as well as custom watch faces. For example, we loved some of the minimal faces. But at the end of the day, these watch dials are tied to some specific layout. This means you can’t have any random pattern you choose. However, the layouts are practical and will get the job done.

Naturally, adding the necessary complications to the Apple Watch dial makes it more practical to use. Finally, just lift your wrist to see important details like reminders, steps taken, or the amount of water you drank that day.
To get the most out of your Apple Watch, you can also add a few apps that support complications to your phone to get the most out of your watch. For example, if you want to instantly identify a song, you can add Shazam. However, keep in mind that your smartwatch’s battery may be affected if you overdo it with the watch face.
