AirPods Pro, Apple’s latest true wireless earbuds, sell like cakes. Not only does it bring the long-awaited noise canceling feature, it also has a new “Transparency” mode that allows users to listen to their surroundings. This new mode is very useful in situations where you need to be aware of your surroundings. Both of these modes make AirPods Pro a better product than AirPods 2. However, on iPhone it’s pretty easy to switch between the two modes (long press the “Force Sensor” on the AirPods Pro’s body or go to Control Center -> Force). Tap on volume -> choose the mode you want), it’s not that simple on Mac. In this article, we’ll show you how to easily switch between noise canceling and transparency mode on AirPods Pro on Mac.
Toggle AirPods Pro’s Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode on Mac
While long pressing the AirPods Pro’s Force Sensor should work while using the earbuds on a Mac, this method doesn’t give any visual feedback. Visual feedback is always important if you want to make sure you’re turning on the right setting. Also, the Force Sensor lets you switch between noise canceling and transparency mode, but not turning them off. In cases where none of these modes are important (like working at home on your Mac), turning them off is a good option as they provide better battery life. So, in the meantime, let’s see how you can do the necessary, shall we?
Switch Between Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode Using Native Method
To switch between noise canceling and transparency mode on Mac using the native method, simply click the “Sound Control” app in the Menu Bar and then select AirPods Pro. You will then be presented with three options; Closed, Noise Cancellation and Transparency. Choose the one you want to use.
Switch Between Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode Using NoiseBuddy
NoiseBuddy is an app developed by Guilherme Rambo, known for creating such great utilities. Many of you may remember it from its previous app, AirBuddy ($5) this is an app that brings the iOS-like AirPods connection splash screen to Mac. Now developed AirBuddy which allows you to switch between noise canceling and transparency mode on AirPods Pro with one click from Menu Bar or Touch Bar. Better still, this time the app is free to download and use. Here are the steps you need to use this app.
1. First, click the link with download the app.
2. Now, double click the Zip File to extract the application. After extracting it, you will find the app as shown in the image below (marked with a blue square).
3. Drag the application to your Application folder As shown.
4. Now start the application. Since the app is not signed by Apple, you will need to allow it to launch. Don’t worry, Guilherme Rambo is a famous Apple developer, so you don’t have to worry about malicious intent. Just click the “Open” button.
5. Now, the app will offer you simple settings. Whether you want to launch the app at login, the Activate button on the Menu Bar and the Activate button on the Touch Bar. Click the checkbox of the options you want to enable.
Note: As you can see, our screenshot is missing the “Activate button on Touch Bar”. This is because we tested the app on a Mac without the Touch Bar.
6. Finally, you should see the app icon. It will accurately display the status of your AirPods Pro mod.. You can click or tap the icon to switch between modes.
