How to Share Your Live Route ETA in Apple Maps on iPhone and iPad

There was a time when Apple Maps on iPhone just didn’t make any sense to me. It was so far behind Google Maps that I never used it. Fast-forward after a few years and a few updates, the stock maps app for iOS and iPadOS just got a whole lot better. Huge improvement in design and accuracy along with features like “Share ETA” has greatly improved the maps app. Speaking of ETA (estimated time of arrival) feature, it comes into play really well when you want your loved ones to track your arrival with ease. They can conveniently track progress in real time throughout the journey and even calculate when you will arrive at your destination. In this article, I will show you how you can share live route ETA in iOS 13 Apple Maps on your iPhone or iPad.

How to Share Estimated Time of Arrival to Contacts in Apple Maps in iOS 13 and iPadOS 13

In terms of functionality, Apple Maps’ ETA feature works quite similarly to that found in Google Maps. Plus, Apple’s navigation app lets you automatically share your estimated time of arrival data with your contacts when you travel to your favorite destinations, so your loved ones can track your destination, route, and location right away.

Note: Make sure your device is running iOS 13.1 or later.

  1. Open Apple Maps on your iPhone or iPad. Based on where you’re going, set the destination. simply tap the search field and enter your destination address. After that, it will show you how far away your destination is and how long it will take to get there. tap on Instructions button.

2. Now, tap on To go to start the step-by-step directions.

Note: You may see a safety alert popup, “Please be safe and always observe the posted signs and current road conditions. Map results and directions may change or be inaccurate. Walking directions may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths.” Tap on OK to continue.

3. Next, tap on it. The “Share ETA” button at the bottom.

4. Next, the app will suggest you some of your favorite contacts. You can also tap the icon. Persons Press to select another person you want to share your arrival time with using Apple Maps.

That is all! Now the recipient will receive the text message containing your ETA along with a detailed view. Just below the directions screen, you can check the number of people you’ve shared your estimated time of arrival with.

When you reach the destination, tap on FINISH and select End Route to finish. Alternatively, you can ask Siri to end the route.

How to Automatically Share ETA in iOS 13 or iPadOS 13 Apple Maps

As mentioned above, you can automatically share the estimated arrival time of your favorite places with your loved ones. This is great because it allows you to share your ETA data without errors. Personally, I set my home and work as my favorite places. And whenever I get home from work, my ETA is automatically shared.

  1. Open Apple Maps and then go to your list of favorite places. To access your favorite list, simply drag the handle above the search field.

Note: If you haven’t created a favorites list, simply enter the location of any place you want to add to your favorites list. Then swipe up on the drag handle to go down and Add to Favorites icon.

2. Now, tap on see all and then hit “I” the button is placed right next to the ground.

4. Now add the name of the person(s) you want to automatically share your ETA with. And then tap on Completed to finish.

From now on, your loved ones will be notified every time you start your journey to this favorite place. It can also display your estimated time of arrival, route, and location until you reach the destination.
