When you start using TikTok, you are prompted for a profile name and a username. If you’ve been using TikTok for a while though, it wouldn’t be unusual for you to decide you want to change one or both. Perhaps you used your real name and did not know at first that your name would be made public. Or maybe the name you originally chose isn’t quite right anymore for the type of content you’re posting. Or maybe you’ve decided that you want to be recognized by something more exciting.
Either way, changing your profile name or username is easy. (On TikTok, the @ sign precedes the username.)
Go to your profile page (tapping the “Me” icon in the lower right corner).
- Select “Edit profile”.
- Select “Name” (to change your profile name) or “Username”.
- Type your new name. (Note that in the case of your username, it must be unique.)
There are a few more things you should know before changing your username. First, your username can be changed every 30 days, so make sure it’s a username you can live with for at least this time. Also, if you change your username, you’ll also be changing your personal TikTok URL (usually tik tok.com/@username). As a result, anyone trying to use the old address will no longer be able to see your videos.
