Thanks to this tweet, I learned how to change the font you see on Slack today. And honestly, I’m so glad I discovered this on a Friday because I spent the last hour trying out ridiculous fonts. I didn’t know how to reset.

If you want to try it yourself, you can simply type /slackfont followed by the name of a font you have locally. Yes, /slackfont Funny Sans MS Works. so /slackfont. You need to make sure you write how the font is named locally for you, so /slackfont Funny Sans will not work; have to be /slackfont Funny Sans MS. After a quick scan and frantic refresh of the Twitter thread, I discovered that to reset the default font, you had to type: /slackfont and press enter.

While it’s fun to play with, it makes me appreciate the default font Slack uses. It highlights how much thought has gone into making sure the thickness, kerning, and size of a font are optimal for the environment in which it is displayed. Replacing the font with any old font is a good way to show how a font can really fail and look bad in one environment, even if it looks great elsewhere.
