How Are You Using YouTube’s New Web Player Right Now?

YouTube’s web player design has mostly remained the same over the past few years, but here’s how you can try the video site’s new experimental web player just before it goes public.

The new interface retains the overall design and color scheme of the web player we’ve known and loved for the past few years, but has now been simplified a bit and some elements are more minimalist and Feel to provide a more modern look.

The new interface has been rolled out to a handful of users, but it’s not ready for a public release yet, so you might not see it for yourself when you visit YouTube, but you’re currently using it with the help of a Google Chrome. addition.

The extension is called EditThis Cookie and allows you to add, delete, edit, search, protect and block website cookies. After installing the extension, you’ll have to dig under Chrome a bit, so if you’re not happy with that, head back now, but if you’re ready to get your hands dirty, here’s how you can enable YouTube’s new web player design. The best part is that it only takes a few minutes.

Without further ado, here’s how to enable YouTube’s new web player interface.

How to Use YouTube’s New Web Player

To take advantage of the new web player interface on YouTube EditThis Cookie Google Chrome extension and yes you will need Google Chrome for this to work.

Once added to Chrome, go to YouTube and then click EditThisCookie in the Chrome toolbar. It’ll be easy to find, as it’s symbolic of a classic chocolate chip cookie.

When you click on this icon, you will see a drop-down menu of options, many of which will seem pointless. Select what is said and click on it.

The text box that appears below that will have a series of letters and numbers. Replace all this with this value:

After entering this new string, click the big green checkmark to save the changes. Now reload YouTube and start watching a video to start using the new web player interface.

The new interface is by no means an extreme makeover, but it certainly provides a fresher look and a more modern feel to YouTube.

Technically, you can do the same in Firefox and other web browsers by using a cookie editor plugin for that particular browser. From there, follow the exact same steps and you’ll be up and running YouTube’s new web player interface in no time.
