How to Group and Ungroup Items in Canva on PC

There are three ways to group items in the web version of Canva. Let’s check each one of them one by one.

Method 1: Group Items Temporarily Using Mouse

In case you only want to act on multiple items once, you can group them temporarily. To do this, drag your cursor and select the objects you want to group. You will notice that the selection border will appear around the selected objects. Now you can resize, delete, move etc. perform the necessary actions on them.

This is one of the easiest ways to group objects in Canva. However, the disadvantage of this method is that all objects in the selected range (usually a square or rectangle) will be selected.

Click anywhere outside the selected boxes to ungroup the objects selected using this method. The selection boxes will disappear and the objects will work individually.

Method 2: Temporarily Group Items Using Keyboard Shortcut

In this method, you will group items located anywhere on your canvas with the help of keyboard shortcuts. First, click on any of the objects you want to select. Then press the Shift key on your keyboard and click any other items you want to select.

note: Hold down the Shift key while selecting other items.

To ungroup any object, click the mouse button while pressing the Shift key on the keyboard. This will deselect the item.

Pro Tip: If selected using the first method, you can use keyboard shortcuts to add or remove objects from the group.

Method 3: Permanently Group and Ungroup Items

In the above two methods, you will lose the group as soon as you click anywhere outside the selection. To keep selected items intact no matter what you do, Canva has a Group feature.

For this, first select the required objects using method 1 or 2. That is, drag the mouse or select items with the help of the Shift key. Once selected, click the Group button in the upper right corner. Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + G (Windows) or Command + G (macOS) to group items after items are selected.
