Now that Android Wear is available in several different smartwatches sold directly by Google on the Play Store, consumers are starting to pick up the new wearable gadget. After being announced at Google I/O a few weeks ago after a brief debut in March, users can now enjoy the first wave of Google-powered smartwatches.
Options like the LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live are now available in select retail stores and online, with buyers starting to ask questions about how Android Wear works. One thing you may want to know is how to reset the device called factory data reset. Basically erasing all personal information from your watch.
Just like all Android smartphones and tablets, a quick swipe through the settings can accomplish this. Whether you want to sell your Android Wear watch now, give it to a friend or family member, or wipe all user data and start over, watch the video below for a quick hands-on and how-to.
Even though Android Wear stores most of the information and apps on your smartphone or tablet rather than on the watch itself, it is always recommended that users delete all information and personal data from a device before selling it. That being said, factory reset is still something you need to know how to do.
Android Wear is designed with simplicity in mind, even if you’re new to Android or have been using it for years. This means that all settings are just a tap or a swipe, or even a voice command that uses Google Assistant and Google voice search to control your device.
For those who prefer to have a visual on how to wipe your Android Wear, the video below will show you how to do it quickly and easily. However, simply do the few commands listed and you will be wiped and reset in no time.
Make sure the screen is on (not a dim low power state) or tap the screen then say “Ok Google, settings” which will instantly launch voice commands, hear you say settings and go to settings menu. From here, scroll down a few options and tap the “Reset device” option and tap that. Check out our quick how-to video below.
As you can see from the video above, it is extremely easy to perform a factory data reset to wipe your Android Wear powered smartwatch. Just say Ok Google, Settings and go to reset option and select it. From here you will get a quick confirmation prompt, tap the green checkmark for OK and you are done.
Android Wear will reboot, boot into recovery mode to erase all your user data, and reboot as a fresh product, just like when it first booted out of the box. You’re done. It’s that easy. Users can also say “Ok Google” then tap the arrow at the bottom of the screen and scroll to the bottom of the list of options, tap settings and find it that way, but voice controls are available, so use them to your advantage.
The method described above is essentially the same method that has been used on Android devices for years, so most users should already know how to perform a factory data reset. However, if you’re new to these devices, just follow the steps above and you’ll be fine. in a few minutes you’ll have a clean new smartwatch.
