Enabling Trash (Recycle Bin) in Chrome OS

Alongside Android and Linux support, Chrome OS is slowly gaining desktop-level features, which is pretty exciting. Recently, Clipboard History has been added to Chrome OS; Nearby Share has also made its debut, and now native screen recording has come to Chromebooks. Not to mention a new Trash folder has been added to the native Files app in Chrome OS. So, if you want to enable Trash (Recycle Bin) in Chrome OS, follow our simple guide below.

Before we get started, make sure you’re on Chrome OS 89 before going through the steps. The Trash feature is already available at: The stable channel of Chrome OS 89 so you don’t need to switch to Beta or Dev channel.. Having said all that, let’s get started.

1. Open Chrome and type chrome://flags into the address bar and press enter.

2. After entering the Chrome Flags page, “rubbish“. Now, click the drop-down menu and select the “Enabled” option.

3. Then a “Restart” popup will appear in the lower right corner. Click on it to make the changes. Remember, this will Restart Chrome OS so save all your work before pressing the button.

4. After reboot, Trash (Recycle Bin) in Chrome OS Files app. If you delete any item, it goes straight to the Trash. And from there, you can permanently delete or restore files.

5. If you don’t want Trash (Recycle Bin) on Chrome OS, click “DisabledClick ” and restart your Chromebook. This much.

So you can enable Trash (Recycle Bin) on a Chromebook and use it to restore files you accidentally deleted.
