Google announced Android P Beta on stage at Google I/O today, and the next flavor of the company’s mobile operating system looks pretty spectacular. Alongside the many features introduced with the new Android P Developer Preview 2, Google has also introduced a new way to navigate your system with Gesture Navigation. Google is eliminating (not entirely) the traditional three-button navigation bar and now a pill-shaped home button has been added instead on Android P. So, would you like to try it on your Android P device? So, read on as we show you how to enable gesture navigation on Android P:
Enabling Gesture Navigation on Android P
note: I tested the following method on my Google Pixel 2 XL running Android P Developer Preview 2. The method should remain the same for all other devices running Android P Developer Preview 2.
one. Settings -> System -> Gestures.
2. Here you will find an option for: “Swipe up on Home button”. Tap on it.
3. Now, just enable toggle Swipe up the Home button as shown below:
4. And that’s it. The navigation bar should now be changed to the new Gesture Navigation.
Now that you have enabled the new gesture-based navigation on your Android P device, you can use it to interact with your device easily. Swipe up on the pill icon to enter the multitasking view and drag the pill icon left and right to browse all recent apps on your device. Enjoy Gestures Navigation on Android P Devices
Although controversial, the new gesture navigation in Android P Developer Preview 2 definitely brings a new way of navigating your device. It focuses on easy switching between recent apps and makes the user more productive. Besides, it’s also fun. Gesture navigation is still pretty good, although I wish Google would find an alternative method to remove the navigation bar in-house to allow more screen space. But what do you think?
