Converting Word documents to PowerPoint presentations has always been a hassle. Whether you rely on one of these online format converters or manually paste/import content, the output quality is almost never perfect. With this concern in mind, Microsoft now released a new feature This allows you to create PowerPoint presentations from Word documents via the web-based version of Microsoft Word.

Before I begin, I’ll point out the limitations of the feature. For now, the feature is only available in English. Also, it does not support Internet Explorer and Safari browsers. Remarkably, currently only supports text content and other media content such as images are not automatically added to the presentation. However, you can add media to the presentation at any time later.

Steps to Convert Word Documents to PowerPoint Presentations
1. Open the Word document in Office Online. To open it from the web version of Word, you must upload the file to OneDrive. After opening, Click on File -> Convert.
2. From the Convert section, Click on ‘Convert to PowerPoint presentation’ and wait for the next page.
3. Word will now prompt you to choose a design theme for the presentation. Choose one of the available templates and Click ‘Convert’ to create the presentation file.
4. In a few seconds, a new presentation based on your Word document will be created. Once ready, you can Click ‘Open Presentation’ to open. You can also access the presentation file from your OneDrive.

To test this feature, I downloaded a sample Word document and turned it into a presentation. The output looked usable and with a few tweaks you can use it for presentations. In addition, as Microsoft has outlined, the company also adds relevant images, icons, videos, themes and fonts to the presentation using AI in the transformation process. However, if the company manages to bring streaming media content in the future, the tool will be a little more useful. Here are a few sample presentation slides created using this method:
