If you’re someone who prefers to disable the microphone and camera on their computer, you might be into it: You attend an official meeting and continue to attend, but only you were supposed to speak. To help troubleshoot such connection issues, Google Meet, recently added a ‘green room’ here you can check if your camera, microphone, speaker and internet connection are working as intended. Here’s how you can use this feature.
Check Video Quality Before Joining a Google Meet Call
1. To enter the green room, Open Google Meet and go to the waiting room. If you have been invited to a meeting, clicking the invite link will give you access to this area. On the other hand, if you are editing the meeting, creating a new meeting brings up the waiting room.
2. Once you are here, you will see a new ‘Check your audio and video’ button in the lower left corner of the video feed. Click on it to open the green room.
3. As soon as you open the green room, you will see separate sections showing your default option for microphone, speaker and camera. you can here click on any of these settings and switch to a different device. After making sure all these settings are in the appropriate device outputs, click Next.
4. From this page, you can record a short clip of yourself to see how you would appear to everyone else in the meeting. Google ensures that this short clip is not saved anywhere and is only visible to you. click start to save the clip
5. After a few seconds, you can play the recorded video clip. Below the clip, Google Meet will show your results, which you can use as a checklist to check your video quality. As you can see, Google Meet indicated that I turned off my camera. There’s also a tips and tricks section where the company asks you to place you in the center of the camera and avoid bright lights behind you.
