Towelroot actually exploits a still-unfixed flaw in Android’s Linux kernel. So root should work fine on most devices. Since this flaw is exploitable by any Android app, Google may offer a fix soon, which is still not viable.
It’s worth mentioning though that the app will be especially appreciated by those who don’t understand what ADB and Fastboot mean. Towelroot does not work on Sony Xperia Z2, Galaxy S4 Active and Galaxy S2. Other devices may also be incompatible, especially recently updated ones, but in the worst case, root will not work and will warn you with a message right from the start that your device is not supported.
