You just downloaded a file from your browser or an app and are having trouble finding it. For images, the problem arises less because they can be found easily. Gallery. For other file types, it’s not more complicated as long as you know where the downloaded files are on Android.
How to find downloaded files
Downloaded files are stored in different places depending on the apps they come from. Each installed application has its own data directory, usually located at the root of the internal memory. You can browse using any Android file manager.
For example, a picture or document downloaded to WhatsApp will be located in the unnamed folder. However, there is no Google Chrome, Firefox or Samsung Internet directory. Files downloaded from browsers are located in the folder Downloads (Where Downloads) is also located at the root of the internal memory. You’ll find all your browser-independently downloaded images, sounds, PDF documents, APK files, and other file types there.
How do I change the location of browser downloads?
Let’s say your internal memory is starting to fill up and you now want all your downloads to be in one directory on the SD card. Google Chrome offers the ability to change the default location of downloads. To do this :
- Tap the three vertical dots in the upper right corner of the browser and then Settings
- in the section Advanced Settingsto choose Downloads
- if you don’t see the option Downloadsmust be enabled. chrome://flags in the address bar. Then, in the search bar at the top of the page that opens, type: enable download location change. The option appears in the results, just tap the dropdown below, activated then restart the browser.
- In Settings > Downloadstap the dropdown menu below Download location and select SD card.
All files you downloaded from Chrome will now be stored in the folder Downloads on the external card. Unfortunately, it is not possible to select a custom folder.
