Amazon Echo, Google Home, HomePod… our age is a rather interesting time, where technology solves problems, brings new comforts, creates hitherto unknown user experiences and instills distrust. It has to be said that owning one of these connected objects produced by one of the GAFAMs is slowly becoming the norm, and that’s exactly what some people like Facebook – not the name – do in this club of American companies marketing them. our data causes a real reaction. As a result, the trust relationship between GAFAM and its customers has never been worse. That doesn’t stop them from making their product find their way into a growing number of homes. It is also not forbidden to be careful and check the time periods when these objects are most likely to listen to you.
How to Mute Microphone on Amazon Echo Speaker
To disable the microphone on an Amazon Echo speaker, nothing could be easier than this:
- Press the button with the crossed-out microphone icon at the top of the speaker
- The LED circle surrounding the top of the speaker then turns red: this means that the microphone is indeed disabled.
- To re-enable the microphone, simply press the same button
Simple, right?
How long does the microphone stay off?
Your Echo speaker will keep the microphone off for as long as you want – under no circumstances will it wake up on its own. You can try the experiment by disconnecting and reconnecting the speaker: the circle remains red, indicating that the microphone is still disabled. So there is nothing to worry about: the speaker remembers the current state of the microphone, unless you press the same button.
Can the microphone be muted with sound?
Unfortunately, no. Although Google Home and HomePod offer to disable the microphone by voice, you have to press the dedicated button on the Echo speaker to disable it. Of course, even if it were possible, it would be impossible to unmute the microphone with sound. But some will certainly find it quite practical to be able to tell Alexa to close their ears directly from the couch.
