Adding and Editing Images in Google Forms

Google Forms offers a great experience for creating different types of forms. You can have multiple choice answers, short or long type answers, and even your choice grids. One of the things that bothers people is how to add images to Google Forms. There are multiple ways to add images to Google Forms. You can add them to your form as part of your questions or allow users to upload an image in response. You can even use a picture as a title. We have covered all of these in this article.

We’ll tell you how to add images as standalone images, as part of questions and answers, and how to upload images as answers. The post also covers how to edit images in Google Forms.

Lets start.

How to Allow Image Uploads in Response in Google Forms

Often times, the creator of the form asks the user to upload images or another type of file in response to a response. Fortunately, this is possible in Google Forms. The files will be saved to your Google Drive account.

To use this feature on mobile or desktop, add a new question to your Google Form. Click or tap the question type drop-down box. Select File upload. Accept the terms if prompted.

Enable Allow only certain file types because you want users to only add images. Check the box next to the picture. Select the appropriate options under Maximum number of files a user can upload and Maximum file size. This much. User will see Add file option in frontend. Pro Tip: If you don’t want users to add images directly to your form, create a question and ask users to add a link for their image from Google Drive. Image links will be saved in the Google Spreadsheet. Learn how to save Google Form responses to different pages.

How to Add Images to Google Forms on Desktop?

There are three ways or situations where you can add images to Google Forms.

Method 1: Add Picture Before or After Question

Sometimes you want to include an image that explains what comes before or after the question. In such cases, you can add an image along with the image caption. Users cannot interact with the image in this scenario. It is for informational or explanatory purposes only.

To add such images, click on the Image icon from the right-hand panel in Google Forms.

The Add image window will open. You can add an image from your computer, instantly take a photo using the device’s camera, add from URL, Google Photos, Drive or even Google Search. Click the picture you want to add and click Add to add it to the form. Once the image is added, add the image caption if you want.

Method 2: Add Picture as Question

Now, if you want to add an image to be a question, that is also possible. To do this, add a question or import a question into your Google Form. Hover your mouse over the question title. In the far right corner you will see the Image icon. Click on it.

Select the picture you want to add. Enter your question in the available box and, if necessary, edit the image as shown in the Edit Image section below.

Method 3: Add Image as Response

Similar to the method above, you can add images as your response options. This will only work for Multiple Choice and Checkbox question types. So choose either of these two as your question in Google Forms. When the options appear, hover your mouse over the option and you will see the Image icon on the right. Click on it and add the picture you want.

Pictures will be resized automatically. Instead of Option you can add a caption for your images.

The order of the answers can be mixed if desired. To do this, hover your mouse over the text Option. A 6-dot icon will appear on the left side of the picture. Use to drag and change the position of the picture. Alternatively, click the three-dot icon below the question box and select the Shuffle option row.

How to Add Images to Google Forms on Mobile Device?

Similar to desktop, the same methods can be used on mobile. Check out our guide on how to create Google Forms on mobile. Also, launch Google Drive website or app to open legacy Google Forms on mobile. You will find your available forms.

Method 1: Add Caption Image

To add an image directly without being part of a question or answer, on your mobile device, tap the Image icon in the bottom bar of your Google Form.

The Add an Image screen will open. Select the image from the desired location. Wait for the image to load. Add image caption and perform editing tasks as outlined below.

Pro Tip: Swipe left on the available options (eg Upload, Camera, etc.) to reveal more ways to add images.

Method 2: Add Picture as Question

Create a regular question of any type. Tap outside the question title to deselect it. You will see an Image icon on its right side. Tap on it. If you don’t see the image icon, tap on the far right. The Add image window will open. Add your picture.

Method 3: Add Images as Response

Create a Multiple choice or Checkbox question type. Tap on the far right of the option to show the image icon. Tap the icon and add your picture. Repeat the steps for other options.

How to Edit Images in Google Forms

You can customize your forms by editing images on mobile and PC, as shown below.

You cannot crop your images in Google Forms. Perform this task before uploading the image. However, you can resize the image. To do this, click or tap the picture once. A border will appear around the image. Use the corners to adjust the size of the picture.

Align Image

Click on the three dots icon in the picture to align your picture. Choose your alignment choice.

Add Hover Text

You can also add a highlight text for your image. Click on the three dots icon at the top of the picture to add it. Select Hover over text. Add your text. This feature is only available if you add an image directly, not as a question or answer.

When you use a picture as a question, you can add a caption to it. To do this, deselect the image and click on the three-dot icon above the image. Select Add title from the menu.

Duplicate Image

If you want to use the same image again in your form, you do not need to add it again. To duplicate the image box, simply click the Duplicate icon.

Change or Delete Picture

Sometimes, once you add an image, it’s just not the right one. One would think they would have to start from scratch. But that’s not the case. Click on the three dots icon on the picture. Select Replace to replace the image or Remove to delete it.

Bonus: How to Add Image to Google Form Title

You can add an image to your form header to make your form relatable and improve its appearance. To do this on mobile or desktop, open your form and click or tap the color palette icon at the top. Under the title, select Select image.

Add the image you want and it will appear as your caption. Repeat the same step to remove or change your header image.
