The iOS 9 jailbreak was released a few weeks ago, and if you encounter any problems with your jailbroken iPhone or iPad, here are five common iOS 9 jailbreak problems and how to fix them.
Jailbreaking your iPhone has many benefits. You can customize iOS just the way you want it and even add cool features to your device that Apple wouldn’t normally allow. It can even make your iPhone more secure and private.
iOS has been considered a kind of “walled garden”, mostly because of the many restrictions Apple has placed on its mobile operating system. However, you can easily break these walls and unlock the capabilities of your iPhone or iPad by jailbreaking your device.
The only downside to jailbreaking is that you may run into problems from time to time. Jailbreak can easily destabilize iOS and cause issues to appear. While these issues are usually fixable, they are still annoying. However, if you’re not sure how to fix these problems, you’ve come to the right place.
There are a small handful of common iOS 9 jailbreak issues that almost every jailbreak user encounters. You may have panicked and factory reset your iPhone, but this is not always necessary.
Here are five common iOS 9 jailbreak problems and how to fix them.
Problems During the Jailbreak Process
It’s unfortunate when it does, but you may run into problems before your iPhone or iPad is officially jailbroken.
Usually, you will get a message saying that the jailbreak could not be completed or the process will freeze completely.
If the process freezes for you, it may be because you have encrypted backups enabled in iTunes. Go to the device summary page in iTunes and clear the checkbox that gives you encrypted backups. From there, back up your iPhone again and then try jailbreaking it.
If it still hangs and freezes, open the Photos app on your device when prompted to open the Pangu app. Open the Photos app instead, and then open the Pangu app, but keep the Photos app running in the background.
If you get an error saying jailbreak failed, it may be because you haven’t enabled Airplane Mode. You’ll also want to make sure you disable your passcode, Touch ID, and Find My iPhone.
Boot Cycles
When you install a certain jailbreak tweak from Cydia, boot loops occur and suddenly cause your iPhone to reboot over and over again.
It’s really easy to go crazy and think the world is ending, but you can easily fix it. There is a simple trick you can use to get your iPhone out of the boot loop and back to the lock screen.
While your iPhone restarts, wait for the Apple logo to reappear after one of the reboots and press and hold the volume up button as soon as the Apple logo appears. Your iPhone should start booting up correctly. Release the volume up button when this happens.
This method will get your iPhone out of the boot loop sequence and you’ll be able to use your device again, but keep in mind that this will temporarily disable all your jailbreak tweaks (thus, why the trick works). From there you can go to Cydia and remove the problematic tweak from your iPhone.
App Crashes
Perhaps the most common problem jailbreakers face is apps crashing after installing a jailbreak tweak.
This happens most often with certain jailbreak tweaks targeting specific apps, so a tweak targeting related apps like YouTube++ or SonFacebook can cause problems for YouTube and Facebook, especially if they haven’t been updated to work with the tweaks. application version.
When this happens, the app is likely to crash constantly, but there is a quick fix for that. Just go back to Cydia and uninstall the tweak you used with that app. Unfortunately, this won’t let you use the tweak any more, but hopefully you can try again in the future when the tweak is updated and more stable.
Stuck on “Reloading Data” in Cydia
When you open Cydia, you may notice that it automatically refreshes and updates your repositories. Then “Reloading Data” will appear on the screen for a few seconds. However, if it continues for longer than that and freezes, you have a problem.
This usually means that a Cydia repository is having trouble reinstalling, so tap the bottom tab to find which repository it is and locate the repository where the install circle is still next to it. This is the repo that is causing the problem.
Just swipe left on the repository and then click . From there, tap in the upper right corner and then select . Re-add the repository to Cydia by typing the repository URL in the text box. This usually does the trick.
If You Update OTA
One thing the jailbreak tools don’t like is that they are jailbreaking an over-the-air downloaded version of iOS (OTA); this means you are updating your iPhone directly on the device and not via iTunes.
Jailbreak tools often run into multiple issues when this happens and the only way to really fix this is to restore your iPhone and update via iTunes rather than OTA. Unfortunately, you can’t really do that, as iOS 9.1 is not jailbroken and iOS 9.0.2 is no longer signed.
A tweak called Cydia Impactor allows you to restore your iPhone and stay on your current iOS version without having to update to the latest version; iTunes lets you do this, but Impactor hasn’t been fully updated for iOS 9 yet at this point, So if you encounter any iOS 9 jailbreak issues, hopefully you won’t need to restore your device to fix them.
