The game, which was developed as a mod of another great Valve title, “Half-life”, is still played today, and its successor, “Counter-Strike Global Offensive”, maintains the gameplay of the classic.
2. ‘The Sims’
EA Games’ biggest hit was released in 2000. Can you believe it’s already been 23 years since its debut? “The Sims”, the precursor to real-life simulators, sold 6.3 million units at the time.
The title that later became a franchise defined the genre. Anyone who has never spent hours creating their characters and building their dream home doesn’t know what good is.
3. ‘World of Warcraft’
Although not the first, the game certainly set new standards for “MMORPGs”. “World of Warcraft”, a spin-off of the “RTS Warcraft” game franchise, made an entire generation of gamers spend hours in front of the computer.
The war between the two factions, the Horde and the Alliance, has been going on for nineteen years. It seems like yesterday, but the game was released in 2004. And yet, to this day, its servers still receive millions of players annually.
4. ‘Ragnarok’
Another big hit among MMOs of the time was “Ragnarok”. The game arrived here in 2004, but it had already been released in South Korea, its country of origin, in 2001. In fact, it was the first successful South Korean game to be exported.
In the game, we create our character and choose his class, among them, we have swordsmen, mages and archers, for example.
Although there are not so many players As in the past, there are still millions of people who venture into the lands of Midgard.
5. ‘God of War’
The most iconic Playstation character made his debut in 2005, on Sony’s second console. In his first adventure in “God of War“, Kratos sought revenge against the god of war, Ares, who was responsible for the death of his family.
Almost twenty years and eight games later, the franchise is still a resounding success. Proof of this is its latest release of 2022, “God of War: Ragnarok”, which sold 11 million copies.
