There is no doubt that Xbox has made a huge contribution to the democratization of cloud gaming with Game Pass. Thanks to the quality game selection and (often) surviving infrastructure, many players have been able to try the sessions on smartphones or away from home. However, despite all these qualities, Xbox cloud games have a big flaw: Once a game is removed from Game Pass, it is no longer possible to play it in cloud games.
However, it seems that Microsoft is preparing something small in this regard. Not content with announcing that some special games would come to PS5 and Nintendo Switch just a few days ago, Phil Spencer also gave some important information to a player during a conversation in Xbox Chat. The boss of Microsoft Gaming answered the question about the possibility of playing the entire game library in cloud games: “It should come this year.”
All your Xbox games are in cloud gaming, for this year
So the countdown is over to finish your games before the critical date ends. Phil Spencer guarantees that when you buy a game, you can play it anywhere, on any device with an Internet connection. A particularly tempting promise that will further cement Xbox as a benchmark in cloud gaming. How this will work will be determined in practice.
How can we actually access our games in the cloud? Will you have to pay for a Game Pass subscription as it is now, or will it be a separate paid service? Knowing Microsoft, there’s a good chance this offer will be another selling point for Game Pass. By offering cloud gaming for all games, players who qualify for the subscription can continue the catalogue. We’ll have to wait a few months to find out for sure.
