Xbox: Microsoft is working on a VR glove with haptic feedback

The most nostalgic may recall Nintendo’s legendary Power Glove, which had the virtue of delivering a revolutionary technology for its time, if not met with extraordinary success. It’s revolutionary, but also avant-garde, as it took nearly two decades for virtual reality to truly settle in the video game industry. With reference to what is the Oculus Rift today, it’s first on PC, but on PlayStation with PSVR.

To be precise, with Sony recently revealing the first information about the PSVR 2, Microsoft seems likely uninterested in the tech, if not lagging behind. At least on the surface, because behind the scenes, the Redmond firm is working on new devices, including a homemade Power Glove. In any case, this is the impression given by a new patent submitted by the manufacturer that looks like a Nintendo glove. The document soberly called the “VR Glove” (for “virtual reality glove”) explains exactly that.

Microsoft wants to develop a VR glove for Xbox

As you can imagine, the glove therefore allows you to interact with objects in virtual reality, especially by grabbing them directly with your fingers instead of pressing a simple button as you currently do. But the VR Glove’s main argument is undoubtedly the haptic feedback it sends to the user’s knuckles, promising the ultimate immersion in the virtual universe.

Also, Microsoft isn’t considering its invention just for video games, as it talks about a use for professionals through Hololens. However, by acquiring studios like Bethesda that are openly interested in VR, the manufacturer can try to catch up with the competition. It should also be noted that this is only a patent for now and nothing has been said about the official release of the product.
