Whenever we buy a game, we intend to finish it to enjoy the achievement and make the most of what the video game has to offer.
However, most people who buy games never finish their story. This can be proven by the game’s achievement trophies, which can indicate whether you actually made it to the end.
One example is the famous game “Elden Ring”, which, despite having sold millions of copies, has a completion rate of less than half that. Whether due to difficulty, the rush of life or personal reasons, many stories are told explaining why some people were unable to finish a game.
Stories of players who didn’t finish their games
In the same vein as these stories, we have the case of player Claire Jackson, who reported having started the game “Dead Space 3” after a long time without playing video games. With several games and trilogies already released, the player decided to invest in this game, as she was a fan of the old game.
Unfortunately, Claire, who played alone, said this was a mistake. After much stress with a game that, according to her, is boring and repetitive, with “banal gunfights”, the woman removed the media from her video game and threw it directly in the trash.
However, she later regretted it as she found this act somewhat unnecessary.
Another case concerns Kenneth Shepard, a user who stated that he had given up playing different games. The player tried to play “Bloodborne” with a friend, but when the friend gave up, he ended up leaving the game aside due to its great difficulty. Despite this, he is thinking about returning to play after having had success in “Elden Ring”.
He also dropped out of “Stray” because he couldn’t relate to the game, since he’s allergic to cats and the game’s main character is one of them. Shepard also dropped out of “Outer Wilds,” even though the game mechanics were good, he said.
On the other hand, some players have no real reason not to finish games. This is the case of Jeb Biggart, who doesn’t finish “Metroid Dread” just to annoy a friend.
Carolyn Petit has a sad story of friendships that fell by the wayside. She started playing “Super Mario 3D World” with people she would really like to get to know in depth.
However, the response ended up not being reciprocated and she left the game aside, as a vague memory of her former partners.
