With the PS4, Sony entered the virtual reality market, the first virtual reality headset. PS VR has established itself thanks to an unrivaled quality/price ratio, rather than offering equivalent performance to its PC counterparts such as the HTC Vive. The device was available for less than 500 Euros.
In fact, and thanks to the PS4’s huge park Japanese manufacturer managed to sell at least 5 million copies of PS VR. A great performance that heralds the development of a second iteration. Sony finally confirmed the news in February 2021 and has a PS VR2 for PS5 in production.
After unveiling the PS VR2’s design at CES 2022, the Japanese firm stepped up its communications around its next virtual reality headset. In May 2022, Sony announced the release of more than 20 games expected at an as yet unknown date.
But via a new blog post on the Playstation Blog, Sony gives first details on PS VR2 user experience. “Preparations for the release of Playstation VR 2 are in full swing, and we look forward to discovering new games and experiences you can enjoy with our next generation virtual reality headset.” Sony writes.

PS VR2 VR and Cinematic modes
Finally, Sony talked about VR mode and Cinema mode. The first one will be clearly dedicated to gaming and will let you enjoy 360° VR games in video format. 4000X2040 HDR (2000 x 2040 per eye), all in one 90Hz/120Hz.
As for the cinematic mode, besides the PS5’s interface All non-VR media and games are “on the virtual theater screen” between Full HD HDR video format and frame rates 24 and 120 Hz.
