v20.00 patch notes for Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2

The Fortnite patch notes for Chapter 3 Season 2 are a bit weak as the v20.00 update is out now, but less with specific notes and more with general promotional material. That said, there are all kinds of new features ready to be explored in this new phase of Fortnite that we’ve laid out and framed for you in our Fortnite patch notes below.

Patch notes for Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2 v20.00

There are all kinds of changes being added to Fortnite, the specific v20.00 patch notes are subtle on the ground but details on what’s still available are plentiful. We’ve listed all the major changes we know of below so you know what to expect from this new era of Fortnite.

Gameplay changes

  • Mechanically building has been removed from the main Battle Royale mode. Find out more about this on our Fortnite building removed page, including when it might return.
  • Players now start with a Top Shield that provides more protection and can recharge to full power after a period of inactivity.
  • Added mantling and allowed players to pull themselves over ledges they wouldn’t normally be able to reach.
  • Default movement speed increased to a faster run.
  • Added a sprint option. This sprint works in limited bursts and requires the player to raise weapons from their hand.
  • Running through the gates causes the player to open their gates. (This feature can be turned off from the menu)
  • Sliding towards the doors opens them as well. (This feature can be turned off from the menu)
  • Siege balls can be found in-game. These items can launch the player or be used to fire projectiles that damage enemies.
  • Bar association funds and donations have been put back into play. Players will be able to place obstacles to get certain rewards, remove weapons from the vault, or add vehicles and towers to the map.
  • Crowned Victory Royales displayed in the Crowning Achievement Emote have been reset with the new Season.
  • Storm surges deal damage every ten seconds instead of every five seconds.
  • Players can now place swarms of fireflies on Creative Islands.
  • Players can now make Collection Items available and visible for certain classes in the Collection Gallery.

Weapon, vehicle and item changes

  • Added, removed, vaulted, vaulted or adjusted new weapons for balancing reasons. You can find the full list of changes on our Fortnite new weapons page.
  • Added Armored Combat Buses as a reward for Bar Association donations. These are powerful tools that pop up in Resistance controlled POIs when fully funded.
  • Added IO Titan Tanks. These are powerful tools that appear in IO-controlled POIs.
  • Added Cow Catchers. These can be used to modify vehicles to improve impact power and damage.
  • Added repair torches, special weapons that allow players to “heal” vehicles. Repair torches have limited fuel, but can be refilled in gas pumps.

Island and map changes

  • While the map was roughly the same shape as before, it had a number of new items and objects added to reflect the new conflict between IO and the Resistance. These include exercises, battlefields, and other militarist-themed locations.
  • Zeppelins are now available above IO-controller POIs. These are accessible via zipwire that connects them to ground level.

Battle pass and progression changes

  • Added a new battle pass featuring characters like Doctor Strange, Tsuki 2.0, The Imagined, Kiara KO, The Origin and Erisa.
  • The Battle Pass unlocks the Omni Sword Pickaxe and related missions. These missions provide Omni Chips that can be spent to “Reprogram the Omni Sword Pickaxe” and customize the weapon’s appearance.

Fixes, rebalances and tweaks

  • Creative Inventory now sorts content differently, placing new items at the top of their respective tabs. Consumables can also be sorted by rarity, and Spring content will now be prioritized more in the list.
  • Fixed the Skydive Volume device glowing after a game ended in Creative, causing players to remain in the skydiving animation.
  • Fixed the LOD issue with the green light post in Gazebo Prefab.
  • Fixed a glitch in the round settings device with incorrect settings such as Ongoing Join.
  • Fixed the Pop-up Dialog device sometimes causing no icons to be copied to the quickbar using the Phone tool.
  • Fixed the Teleporter issue causing Link to Target to fail after the game starts.
  • Fixed Random Number device bug that caused numbers to not line up correctly.
  • Fixed the Fire Volume device setting causing the Allow Objects to Fire setting on some platforms, and the Enable Fire island setting on some platforms.
  • Fixed a glitch that caused players to enter Down But Not Out (DBNO) in Single Player.
  • Fixed a glitch that caused phone and pickaxe connections to change.
  • Fixed a glitch that caused the thermometer to not display properly on XL islands.
