A university of U.S She was so impressed with the features of the game ‘The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’ that she decided to use the game in her Mechanical Engineering course.

In fact, what caught the attention of experts was the Ultrahand feature, which has impressive performance in creating devices with realistic physics.

The University of Maryland decided to create the special course ‘The Legend of Zelda: A Link to Machine Design’, taught by professor Ryan D. Sochol.

According to the course page on the InternetUltrahand and Fuse mechanics are used so that students have experience in designing, prototyping and testing new types of vehicles.

Game as a learning method

The professor even produced a promotional video for the course for the YouTubein which he explains that engineering students often use software CAD (Computer Aided Design, in Portuguese) to create prototypes and test vehicles and robots.

The latest Zelda feature, however, works in a similar way and the game can also be used as a learning method.

“When I played the game, I couldn’t believe how much I was applying my training to engineering“, expressed Ryan D. Sochol.

Very high demand

During the last semester, the course students were divided into teams. Demand was so high that the waiting list was twice as long as the number of places available.

Each team received a Switch with a copy of the game and a Pro Controller, which could also be taken home.

The proposal was for groups to perform tasks, including the challenge of overcoming certain sanctuaries available in the base version of the game. This way, they were able to make the projects within the game a reality.

Most of the final grade, as informed by the director, was awarded based on the results achieved in a kind of race in Hyrule, in which teams needed to use a device to cross terrestrial environments and aquatics as quickly as possible.
