Ubisoft, known for being one of the largest and most popular gaming companies in the world, has created and published a wide variety of games for video games, PC, smartphones and tablets.
His name is also associated with some popular franchises including “Assassin’s Creed”, “Far Cry”, “Just Dance”, “Watch Dogs”, among others.
Recently, however, an announcement from Ubisoft has worried gamers. In the statement, the company declared that it will suspend inactive accounts for an extended period.
Accounts that have been inactive for a long time will be deleted by Ubisoft
According to the official statement, when the deletion of inactive accounts is officially carried out, the respective users will lose access to the games associated with these accounts.
Accounts that have been inactive for less than four years will be maintained and preserved. Those that have been inactive for longer are at risk.
Therefore, it is essential that users are aware of this new policy to avoid losing access to their favorite games and, if necessary, take advantage of the proven grace period to take action.
Ubisoft account deletion won’t happen overnight
This initiative by Ubisoft is reflected in network updates in order to maintain the quality and functionality of its services.
But before that happens, players will still receive an email. From there, the company will give the user 30 days to go to the website and cancel the account deletion process.
The problem is that many players will naturally not receive the email from Ubisoft, as it is common, especially among younger audiences, to create accounts associated with an email address that is different from the one they usually use on a daily basis.
Games purchased for computer are safe
By deleting an account, there is a chance of losing even the titles that have been purchased at some point by the player. However, in a new update, it is worth highlighting that accounts that have games purchased for computers will not be part of the suspension, according to Ubisoft,
Read an excerpt from the note issued by the company regarding this:
“For several years, we have implemented the account deletion process in accordance with the requirements of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). Our policies are aligned with legal requirements and industry standards. This measure also serves to protect our players against fraud.”
How can I prevent this?
If you want to protect yourself against having your Ubisoft account deleted, the best recommendations are:
- log in and leave the account open for a few minutes to show activity;
- go to settings and check if the email linked to the account is an email you use regularly;
- check with your email provider that the Ubisoft domain is not blocked from sending communications.
This way, if the platform sends any important information about your account to your email, you will receive it in time to prevent anything from happening.
