As of September 2023, King is the publisher of the mobile game Candy Crush. $20 billion revenue. Xbox boss Phil Spencer has never hidden Microsoft’s interest in the company. The man who now likes to say that he lost the console war to Sony intends to make up for it in the real gaming market: the smartphone.

Indeed, we should not forget the great successes of smartphone gamers such as Call of Duty Mobile and Diablo Immortal. However, Xbox does not only intend to have these licenses. On the contrary, the company plans to rely on these new acquisitions to ensure that the Play Store and the App take their place on their thrones by opening a brand new store dedicated to mobile games.
“This is an important part of our strategy and we are actively working on it today, not only alone but also in discussions with other partners who want to have more options on how they can monetize the smartphone market.” explains Phil Spencer to Bloomberg.
