Following the announcements, CD Projekt RED co-CEO Adam Kicinski spoke to investors in the company during a phone call to clarify, among other things: business strategy and timeline. Of course, The Witcher 4, answering the Polaris codename, was at the center of questions from investors.
Many asked the manager if the studio already had an idea about the release date of this new work. The studio’s boss was clear: The Polaris project won’t be announced until at least 2025. For good reason, The Witcher 4 will use Unreal Engine 5, the latest version of Epic Games’ graphics engine.
On Polaris, CD Projekt RED should tame UE 5 first
In fact, the development of the title promises to be long and complex, a time needed to tame this new technology. “We’re getting the technology ready for Polaris. This is the first project released with the new Unreal Engine 5, there is an additional workload to develop this engine. Obviously, we will have to put in extra effort for this project,” he said. explains.
Once the graphics foundation is laid with UE 5, the development of The Witcher 5 and 6 will be much faster than the CD Projekt RED framework. he thinks that it would take only three years to design each piece. For now, we know that pre-production of Polaris starts from May 2022.
