Steam will soon let you hide certain games from your friends, we wonder why

Steam is probably working on a new privacy feature for its games. This will allow you to configure some titles as “private” so that they are not visible in your public library or to the eyes of your friends. We already have a small idea about the games in question.

Thinking of doing the right thing, Steam allowed its users to share their game libraries with the world a few years ago. On the one hand, it increases the feeling of community: it’s always nice to see a complete stranger enjoying the same game as you. But on the other hand, we don’t always want everyone to know what we’re playing. Whether it’s guilty pleasures, playtime that’s a little too long, or explicit content, sometimes we want to keep our personal pleasures truly personal.

Steam definitely only allows you to show this information to your circle of friends, which prevents the whole world from knowing what you’re up to, and you can even hide your entire game library to avoid taking any risks. But it is impossible to decide on a case-by-case basis, which can disappoint more than one person; There are only a few ugly ducklings in the library. Valve seems to understand this well and is working on a feature that will solve this thorny issue.

Hide this Steam game I can’t see

Pavel Djundik, the expert and creator of the SteamDB platform, which allows you to find out whether a game is running properly on Steam Deck, actually shared an interesting screenshot on his X account (Twitter). Above we see an option titled “.Mark private and hide from friends » A view in the game’s settings indicating that the game will not appear on the public profile.

We don’t yet know when this feature will be generally available, but it’s clear that Valve is working on the issue. Naturally, jokes quickly spread on social networks that this option would be used, first of all, to camouflage NSFW games from the huge library of games, especially on Steam. It’s hard to prove them wrong.
