Red Dead Redemption is a game that can easily be described as: classical It has left its mark on the industry so much. “GTA western version”, which was released in 2010, seduced players with its effective gameplay and atmosphere inspired by Sergio Leone’s films. Re-release right on PS4 and Nintendo Switch. We were able to try these versions, here is our opinion.
Although Red Dead Redemption is an important game that is one of the pillars of the modern open world, until now it was difficult to play old consoles without taking them out of the cabinet (Only Xbox Series X/S offers sufficient backward compatibility). Suffice it to say that this was a stigma at a time when the least popular game had the rights to remakes. This is even more damaging, as many players discovered the license late in 2018 with Red Dead Redemption 2. So this release is a boon for those who want to dive into the game again, but what exactly is this port worth?
Once Upon a Time in the West
Red Dead Redemption tells us the story of John Marston. As a remorseful outlaw, he is forced back on the road by the Feds. His mission is to eliminate the last members of his old gang. A starting point that serves only as the background to a fascinating and well-written adventure. Rockstar’s sharp pencil has lost none of its shine Almost 13 years after the first release. Brilliantly sarcastic, often satirical, and sometimes poignant, the many dialogues hit the mark every time.
Especially after a second installment that went further in every way, we could fear a badly outdated gameplay in terms of gameplay. However this worry disappears after a few minutes. Admittedly, we can point to harsh animations, somewhat outdated mechanics and solid progression, but the Red Dead formula still works like a charm. Playing for hours non-stop, chaining quests, making contracts or simply exploring the recesses of the huge wild lands that are available to us amazes us.
