It is now common knowledge that Sony, like other stalwarts of the video game industry, is not a big proponent of video game preservation. Also, when we learned that the manufacturer has just deployed A new update for his PS3, console was released 16 years ago (sorry for the old coup), something to be a little suspicious of.
Especially since the Japanese firm doesn’t really bother to make statements about the latter. It will therefore be necessary to satisfy explanation for less cryptic posted on the official website describing “This software update improves system performance”. We certainly won’t be able to learn more in the coming days, at least from Sony.
16 years later, PS3 is still getting updates
As a reminder, PS3 support officially started in 2017When Sony announced its intention to focus on the PS4, which was released 4 years ago and is much more popular than its older sister. This did not prevent the manufacturer from continuing to update the console, the latest version May 2022 and it’s coming to offer more security options.
But, of course, the pace has dropped drastically over time, and Sony’s abandonment of the PS3 seems inevitable. This does not mean that you can no longer enjoy the toy library. In recent years, in fact, emulation bidding increased significantly, on PC of course with very convincing solutions, but also on PS5 in the long run maybe.
