Pokemon Go evolution items give you access to resolutions you wouldn’t otherwise be able to get. This means you need them if you want to complete your Pokedex or get some of the strongest Pokemon in the game. There are technically 10 evolution items in Pokemon Go, including baits that have access to special Pokemon Go Eevee evolutions, meaning there are a number of things to find and work with how to use them in Pokemon Go.

That’s why this guide that covers all the Pokemon Go evolution items and exactly what they do will come in handy so you know what to hunt.

How to get evolution items in Pokemon Go

The easiest way to get evolution items in Pokemon Go is to just play. This will guarantee you an evolution item every seven days from your seven-day series of Pokestops and increase your chances of finding Sinnoh Gems. Regular specials like Up-Grades and King’s Rocks will sometimes drop from regular Poke Stops, but making sure you spin a Poke Stop each day and working towards your series will ensure you get at least one each week. It’s impossible to predict what you’ll get though, so you may need to see a few Metal Skins before you find the Sunstone you want.

The Sinnoh Stone is more difficult to find, but not impossible. There are two main ways to find one: the first is to complete seven days of research breakthrough quests. This means earning a stamp every day until you win a legendary Pokemon match. If you’re lucky you’ll get a Sinnoh Stone at the same time, but that’s not guaranteed. The second way is to participate in trainer battles via PvP. Sinnoh Stones have been known to drop for both winners and losers.

What do evolution items do in Pokemon Go?

Evolution items were introduced with the Gen 2 update in 2017, and if you stack your candy right that means a whole lot of new “mon” stacks through evolution. Each can be used to evolve one of your existing Pokemon into a new evolution. These can be restricted to one or two specific Pokemon or even region-wise. Below are each of the ways to use the various evolution items available.

How to use Dragon Scale in Pokemon Go?

The good news is that you can only use your Dragon Scale on a certain Pokemon, but you’ll want to take a trip to the seaside or nearest river. Combine Dragon Scale with 100 Horsea candy to transform Seadra into Kingdra.

How to use King’s Rock in Pokemon Go

Kings’ Rock not only transforms Poliwhirl into frog-like Politoed, but also transforms Slowpoke into Slow King. As always, you’ll need candy for both Pokemon.

How to use Metal Skin in Pokemon Go

Metal Plating can also be used on two different Pokemon, and as you’d expect, they both turn into Steel types. If you upgrade Scyther, you can get the fast Scizor, while Onix will transform into the rock snake Steelix.

Sunstone allows you to transform a number of plants, such as Pokemon, into higher forms as long as you have the Stone itself and the candy.

How to use Magnetic, galcial, and Mossy Lures in Pokemon Go

The Magnetic Lure is one of three new bait types in the game (see our guide on how to get Leafeon and Glaceon in Pokemon Go for the other two), and it works like a regular bait with some minor changes. For 30 minutes, extra Pokemon will be attracted to the lure, but a normal bait can attract any type of Pokemon, while a Magnetic Charm will only attract electric, steel, and rock-type pocket monsters.

It is also an element of evolution! If you’re near a Poke Stop with Magnetic Lure applied, you can convert Magneton and Nosepass into Magnezone and Probopass respectively – provided you have enough candy, of course. If you don’t want to shell out 200 coins for yourself, you can wait until the next Pokemon Go Community Day and find someone else using one!
