Nintendo Switch: thanks to the cloud you will find all your data on the next console

It’s not uncommon for Nintendo to take inspiration from competition to develop their own consoles. But when it does, the firm does it well. Although Microsoft and Sony have offered for several years to create an account where all game information is stored, from backups to various trophies won, the Japanese firm is still a little behind on this point today.

Indeed, Nintendo Switch is the company’s first console to offer the same service with Nintendo accounts. These are specifically synced with the mobile app that lets you find all your information on your smartphone. And next year (if all goes well) these accounts will also allow all this data to be exported to the manufacturer’s next console.

Nintendo promises gamers will find all their data on its next console

This is indeed what the manufacturer said in an exchange with its shareholders. When asked about the transition to their next console, Nintendo replied “We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition from Nintendo Switch to next-generation consoles using Nintendo Accounts.” Shuntaro FurukawaIts CEO points out, in passing, that the service currently has 290 million users

It is not trivial to allow players to transfer their data in this way. Like an Xbox Series X or a PS5, this could mean Nintendo plans to make its next console compatible with Nintendo Switch games. Of course, these are just assumptions, the Japanese company is content to mention it for now. “a smooth transition”, without specifying the true nature of this data. However, it’s time Nintendo caught the point.
