Nintendo files new patent that could change everything
A new patent from Nintendo appears to confirm the existence of new control technology that could be applied to the future model we’ll call Switch 2. This patent was filed in May but wasn’t made public until September 7, when it was discovered and shared over the weekend.
Specifically, the new patent shows the operation of a controller using: magnetic fields instead of physical contacts. This revolutionary controller will thus transmit a signal to the console depending on the intensity of the magnetic attraction on the controller, which varies depending on the controller’s position at a given moment.
Hypothetically, this could be Nintendo’s response to the infamous Joy-Con drift. In addition to reducing wear and tear (since the joysticks shouldn’t rub against anything), this should also mean that: joysticks will return to center when not in use.
