Mobile game lovers have some bad news, as the developers of one of the best Nintendo Switch emulators, Skyline for Android, have announced the end of their project.
This shocking new feature left gaming enthusiasts unhappy, as this emulator had stood out as a highly functional and popular solution for those who wanted to enjoy Nintendo Switch exclusive games on their smartphones or tablets.
End of an era of Nintendo Switch emulators
The news was released by the Skyline team on Discord. According to the professionals, the development of the product will be stopped after a DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) blocking notice from Nintendo itself.
While standalone emulators are not illegal, the team noted that Nintendo’s warning refers to a piece of software called Lockpick. The technology is used to hack security keys from a Nintendo Switch console for use in the emulator.
Nintendo is known in the gaming industry for its efforts to contain products that infringe its copyrights and to make companies that engage in this type of practice pay for the damage they cause to Nintendo’s original market.
Some of these emulators help access titles that are no longer available on current consoles, so products like Skyline can play and allow players to access the Nintendo Switch on Android devices.
Now, players who access Skyline will be faced with a notice that the service has been interrupted due to a DMCA request made by Nintendo itself. In other words, the Japanese company blocked the service for reasons of violation of copyright laws.
When users emulate commercial games without purchasing the title, they are pirating that product. Therefore, the developer companies suffer losses, especially in their profits.
