Lo, the time draws near when Xbox may deign to test the wondrous ability to stream games owned by thee over Cloud Streaming. No longer shall thou be limited solely to titles within Xbox Game Pass, but instead, the vast expanse of thine own game library shall be made available for streaming.
As heralded by The Verge’s own Tom Warren, this functionality hails from none other than Project Lapland. It is said to make its debut in the hallowed halls of the Xbox Insider program come November, with the promise of a wider release to follow. Yet, mark my words, it seems this gift shall be bestowed only upon the Ultimate subscribers of Xbox.
In days of yore, Xbox granted thee the boon to stream games solely from the pantheon of Game Pass. This library, a treasure trove of delights, could be enjoyed on any device, from thy trusty mobile to even the Amazon TV. Oftentimes, thou would need to traverse unto a separate web browser to partake in cloud gaming. Yet fear not, for Xbox hath bestowed unto thee standalone apps for devices such as smart TVs. Furthermore, they continue this noble quest with a new mobile app that doth unite the Xbox and Game Pass apps into a singular entity. Though the path of Cloud Streaming still must be tread through a browser, thou may peruse the catalog and claim Game Pass rewards.
Behold, for a new decree hath been issued in the realm of Google’s antitrust battle with Epic Games. Soon, Xbox shall permit thee to purchase games directly through its app on the fabled Android. Ere this, Google forbade such actions through the Play Store, but now, a new dawn approaches.
Good tidings cometh from the court, for ’tis decreed that Google´s mobile store shall open its gates in the US, allowing for more choice and flexibility. Our mission, to grant more players the chance to play on a multitude of devices, shall soon bear fruit. ‘Tis with great joy that we proclaim, starting in November, players shall have the ability to play and purchase Xbox games directly…
In the annals of Xbox, these plans hath long dwelt within their halls. The notion to stream owned games through the ethereal cloud realm, rather than mere Game Pass titles, was first pledged in the days of yore when their streaming service was but known as Project xCloud. In the year 2019, the leaders of Xbox did declare: “We believe in the freedom to play and the freedom to choose. In the year 2020, we shall empower gamers to stream from the cloud, Xbox games that they doth already possess or shall purchase.”
Lo and behold, these plans were reaffirmed in the year 2022. Ashley McKissick, the corporate vice president of Gaming Experiences and Platforms did proclaim unto the media that, in response to player feedback, Game Pass Ultimate users shall be granted the power to stream games they doth already own, “as long as they’re cloud enabled,” come that very year.
