RetroRealms Proclamation Trailer
Recall the momentous occasion when Boss Team Games heralded the inception of two games inspired by the iconic 1978 slasher masterpiece Halloween only yesterday? Verily, the studio has now unveiled that one of these games is a 16-bit action platformer, poised for release this October.
WayForward Technologies has joined forces with Boss Team to birth the inaugural duo of titles for RetroRealms, a novel series of vintage-themed console and PC games. The maiden entries are fashioned after Halloween and Ash vs Evil Dead, due to grace the gaming realm on October 18 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
“Each member of Boss Team Games harbors an ardent passion for horror, and it is without dispute a surreal honor to dabble in the craft of these legendary properties,” declared Boss Team CEO Steve Harris in a missive. The studio had previously bestowed upon the world the asymmetric 4v1 Evil Dead: The Game and presently collaborates with John Carpenter on another Halloween opus conceived in Unreal Engine 5.
RetroRealms: Halloween and RetroRealms: Ash vs Evil Dead traverse the landscape of 16-bit platforms. While not entirely tethered to cinematic fidelity, glimpses within the trailer offer familiar mise-en-scènes from each franchise; one can manoeuvre Ash as he wields his chainsaw arm against hordes of adversaries or witness Michael’s flight from captivity towards the ancestral Myers abode.
“We have crafted an innovative gameplay experience unique to the RetroRealms series, accentuating the grisly spectacle and extraordinary capabilities of these characters,” proclaimed WayForward president Voldi Way in the official communique.
Each title stands as an autonomous entity requiring individual purchase, yet procuring both unlocks novel elements, including interchanging characters amongst one another. Picture the scenario where Michael Myers engages with the diabolical entities from the Evil Dead. Furthermore, a touchstone labeled RetroRealms Arcade beckons players to engage with the games, exchange in-game tickets, and explore additional features.
Individually, each RetroRealms offering is priced at $25, while a combined Double Feature package may be acquired for $50 via preorders. There is also a Collector’s Edition valued at $100 that encompasses both titles, DLC introducing Laurie Strode and Kelly Maxwell, a 12-inch Michael Myers plush, and assorted treasures.
