Attention, Call of Duty fans! If you were looking forward to wall-running or jetpacking in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, you might want to brace yourself. Recently, Activision confirmed that these movement mechanics won’t be making a comeback. While some players may appreciate this return to tradition, others, like myself, are feeling a bit disappointed.
In the latest episode of the CODPOD podcast, Stephanie Snowden, Activision’s senior director of studio communications, shared this news while diving into what players can expect from the next installment. She stated, “I can confirm no wall-running, no jetpacks, but it will feature an evolution of Black Ops 6’s omnimovement. Boom, there you go.”
This announcement hits a personal note for me. After years of feeling burnout with the franchise, the introduction of omnimovement in BO6 felt refreshing at first. I had hoped for a revival of the unique movement styles seen in Black Ops 3 and Advanced Warfare. However, it appears we’ll have to settle for the evolution of what’s already present.
That said, there may still be a glimmer of hope for movement enthusiasts. Industry leaker @TheGhostofHope hinted on Twitter that while traditional wall-running isn’t in the cards, “wall jumping” could feature as part of the new omnimovement enhancements. It’s important to note that this information hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.
Additionally, let’s address another disappointment. Snowden also dashed dreams of a Blackout battle royale revival in BO7. Although the reveal trailer showed characters swooping in with wingsuits—an exciting homage to the first successful CoD battle royale mode—Snowden clarified that this is simply a mechanic in the co-op campaign and not a return of the beloved battle royale format.
Looking forward, the podcast teased more CoD news set to drop later this summer, and many of us are hoping for a Call of Duty Next event where content creators will get hands-on with the upcoming game.
As of now, Black Ops 7 doesn’t have an official release date, but speculation points to a likely launch on a Friday at the end of October or the beginning of November. Keep your eyes peeled for updates!
Will there be any new movement mechanics in Black Ops 7? It appears that traditional options like wall-running and jetpacks are off the table. However, wall jumping may inject some creativity into gameplay.
Are the changes in movement mechanics a step backward for the franchise? Some players might view the focus on classic movement as a return to roots, while others might see it as a missed opportunity for innovation.
When can we expect more news about Call of Duty: Black Ops 7? According to Activision, more details will emerge later this summer, possibly during a special event featuring gameplay previews.
