“Mortal Kombat“, the legendary fighting game franchise created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, is an undisputed icon in the world of video games. Since its inaugural release in 1992, the “Mortal Kombat” universe has grown exponentially, becoming a global phenomenon that has transcended generations.
One of the key strategies that has sustained the franchise’s continued success over the decades has been the constant addition of new characters, a brilliant tactic for attracting and maintaining audience interest. And currently, the situation is no different.
The essence of “Mortal Kombat” lies in the brutality of the combats and the diversity of the fighters, each with their own fighting style and history. From the beginning, NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment understood the importance of constant innovation.

As the practice of bringing new characters still remains intact over the years, news recently emerged that, finally, a big name from the martial arts real-life characters will enter the game’s doors and have their own version.
We are talking about none other than Jean-Claude Van Damme himself. That’s right! He is the next target to be incorporated into the game “Mortal Kombat 1”.
The character was revealed during an interview in which Ed Boon attended and broke the big news. Shortly after the reveal, a trailer was made available presenting more details about the character, in which he fights with Johnny Cage.
“There were several attempts with Van Damme. But this time we won the lottery and got him. We actually have his voice, and he will be the character of Johnny Cage,” mentions Boon.
The constant addition of new characters is a testament to “Mortal Kombat’s” ability to adapt and evolve over time, remaining relevant to current and future generations of fans while consolidating older audiences.
