The company responsible for the game franchise ‘NBA 2K’, which involves basketball games, is involved in a scandal. Take-Two Interactive is being accused, in the United States, of committing abusive and irregular practices with sports microtransactions.
The case has already resulted in a lawsuit against the company. The main allegation is that it would be “stealing” money from players, making it impossible for them to virtually transfer the amounts acquired in a game from the franchise to a more recent title.
In other words, the digital currencies that are still in force in an edition of ‘NBA 2K’ are prohibited from being moved beyond the game itself. In other words, they are not valid, for example, for the new ‘NBA 2K24’.
According to players, this would be happening both with the money earned within the game and with the balance purchased with real money and still remaining in the account. The revolt, of course, is justifiable.
Other accusations

According to the text of the indictment, the Take-Two would be using “unfair, illegal and greedy” practices to get players to spend more money on games.
Furthermore, another allegation is that the company adopts the tactic of closing the servers of old versions of the game, forcing users to migrate to the most recent version.
The ‘NBA 2K21’ server stopped working at the end of 2022, while ‘NBA 2K22’ will be discontinued on December 31st of this year.
This not only ends matches, but also prevents players from accessing their purchased funds, which are therefore retained with the company.
Take-Two preferred silence
So far, Take-Two has not commented on the case. The case is pending in the California court, in U.S. It was moved by a player under 18, represented by his mother.
The new game in the franchise, ‘NBA 2K24’, was released in September this year and has already received 90% negative reviews on Steam. The reason for this mass reaction from users is, precisely, the issue involving microtransactions.
For company executives, there are no problems with charging US$70 for releases of the current version of the game, nor with US$50 for the port of Red Dead Redemption. For them, it’s a “great value.”
