Minecraft views NFTs as scams and refuses to integrate them into its game

With the (almost) general enthusiasm for NFTs now seeming to be over, some followers continue to believe in this parallel economy. This means that some still hope to integrate their favorite games. This question stirred a stir earlier in the year when several studios announced they had started the project, often just before backing out in the face of public backlash.

But while some studios like Square Enix have yet to drop the case, most of them categorically refuse to include NFTs in their games. MinecraftOne of the most popular titles on the planet has so far been quiet about it. We’ll bet that a few players have asked Mojang the question since Mojang has destroyed any hope of seeing NFTs one day in the construction game.

Minecraft says no to NFTs

The reason is simple: NFTs are not compatible with Minecraft values, says the studio. If that’s not clear enough, the latter develops a little further from the front: “Each of these uses of NFTs and other blockchain technologies creates digital ownership based on scarcity and exclusion”. Do you want more ? “We are also concerned that some third-party NFTs are unreliable and cost the players who buy them.”

Translation: NFTs are scams that only serve to entice players to drain their money for little benefit. Mojang reiterates his stance on the subject several times, stating: “The speculative price and investment mentality around NFTs distracts attention from the game and encourages profit-making that we believe is incompatible with the long-term joy and success of our players. »

In other words, NFTs in Minecraft are not for now. Mojang is not the first to position itself this way. Last February, the site itch.io already labeled NFTs as scams.
