The reason given: The Japanese giant would wait until enough games were released for the console to launch. On the other hand, it looks like the release window will become clearer, thanks to a recent report by Japanese media Nikkei. Based on the latter, we can expect it to launch as early as March 2025. The information has been confirmed by Video Game Chronicles and Eurogamer, two sources that have proven reliable so far, especially regarding Nintendo Switch 2.

Nikkei explains this “The priority is to ensure that we have a significant initial inventory of the successor console as well as the software range at launch.” So, as mentioned so far, it’s not just a matter of the game library to justify the delay of the Switch, which was originally planned for 2024. Nintendo also wants to avoid launch disruption by producing large quantities before the fateful date.

Additionally, Nikkei notes that a March 2025 release is not guaranteed and that Nintendo may delay the launch again to ensure the above-mentioned conditions are adhered to. Moreover, the media reconfirms what was previously said about the console, based on the fact that it will take on the hybrid concept of the Switch, while increasing the performance of the console with a larger screen.
