Once you have completed the first chapter and are free to explore the open world, you can start your hunt for the killer whenever you want. You can also visit the venues in any order you want, but we start just south of Valentine, the first city you will visit in the game. From Valentine, head to the road to the right of Castor’s Ridge on the map.

Here, you’ll find a leg right next to the road. Head towards the bridge and there is a corpse hanging from the structure and some words written on the rocks.

To the left of this is a head with a section of the map in its mouth… nice.

Now you need to find the remaining two pieces to complete the map. The latter is to the right of Braithwaite Mansion at ‘S’ in ‘Scarlet Meadows’ on the map.

Here’s another body hanging from the incredibly creepy tree, with some more writing and another head on the back with the next piece of map.

The final segment takes us south of Wallace Station, up the hill south of the river.

Go up the hill and you’ll discover a boulder, another corpse, and the last piece of the map on a smaller boulder to the left. Sorry for the condition of my coat – I was attacked by a bear.

Once you have collected all three pieces, a warning will appear on the screen informing you that the map has been put together. Open your bag and open it. There is an ominous message on the back but the image on the front points to a new location on the map and is a combination to unlock whatever you find there.

This location is back towards Valentine at a place called Lucky’s cabin (just south of Valentine on the map).

When you arrive, an alien icon will appear, indicating that you are in the correct area. Head to the left of the building and open the basement doors when prompted. At this point, it’s worth saying that the rest of this hunt is best experienced without knowing anything more, so if you want to do that, go now.

Warning, read no further if you want to experience the end of the Red Dead Redemption 2 Killer Clue mystery for yourself.

still here? ok we go

Once you find the killer inside you, you must take him back to Valentine, so load him onto your horse and return to the sheriff. Put the murderer in jail and know that you have put an end to this mystery…or do you get it?

Just before he’s arrested, the killer will attack the sheriff. Here you have a choice. You can shoot the killer, save the sheriff and win a small reward, or let the series continue until the sheriff takes care of it himself. You get nothing if you choose the second option, but this is more fun.
