How to get Pokemon Go Rocket Retreat Event Guide, Shadow Latias, and Salandit

For several days, the Pokemon Go Rocket Retreat Event will give you the opportunity to defeat Team Go Rocket and enroll Shadow Pokemon into their team. There’s so much to do, and we’ve created this guide to help trainers get the most out of this new event.

Shadow Pokemon is a unique cheat in Pokemon Go where trainers save these special ‘mons’ from Team Go Rocket, having the decision to purify or not clean them.

Sure, Team Go Rocket has plagued trainers for quite some time, but now they’re launching a new offensive in the Season of Alola. The Rocket Retreat event will see the renegade group return with brand new Shadow Pokemon at their disposal, including the Legendary Latias.

Pokemon Go Rocket Retreat Event Start Time

The Rocket Retreat event in Pokemon Go starts at 12 PM local time on Sunday, April 3 and ends on Thursday, April 7 at 11:59 PM local time.

How to get Salandit and Salazzle in Pokemon Go

Salandit and its evolution, Salazzle, make their debut in Pokemon Go with this Rocket Retreat event. The Poison and Fire types in the Alola region not only have unique types, but can also be powerful in their own right.

To obtain both Pokemon, trainers must first acquire a Salandite. But instead of catching these Pokemon on Earth or rescuing them from Team Go Rocket, trainers will need to hatch them from 12km Eggs.

Trainers can grab 12km Eggs by defeating one of the Team Go Rocket Leaders while there is room in their Egg pockets.

Salazzle, an evolution of Salandite, is unique in that only female Salandite can evolve. Using 50 Salandite candies on the female Salandite, the Pokemon will transform into Salazzle.

Shadow Latias and New Shadow Pokemon

Team Go Rocket will appear more frequently in their balloons and PokeStops during the event. On this occasion, the group will have six new Shadow Pokemon that they have on their team.

Alolan Rattata, Alolan Sandshrew, Alolan Exeggutor, Sudowoodo, Girafarig and Numel will be in Shadow forms on Team Go Rocket. Instructors can transform Alolan Rattata, Alolan Sandshrew, and Numel into their advanced form if you wish in their Shadow form.

An in-game bonus that trainers can take advantage of during this event is to use Charged TMs to replace the Frustrated move learned by Shadow Pokemon. Normally, Angry cannot be changed, but this can happen during the event. So if you have a Shadow Pokemon that you want to empower with a better move, now is the time to do it.

As for Shadow Latias, the trainers will have to defeat Team Go Rocket Boss Giovanni to save him. By defeating all three Rocket Leaders and obtaining the Super Rocket Radar, the trainers will enter a battle with him. Defeating Giovanni will allow the trainers to try and catch Shadow Latias at hand.

Here are the Rocket Leaders and the teams Giovanni used in battle:

  • arlo: Exeggcute, Salamence/Exeggutor/Dragonite, Gardevoir/Scizor/Steelix
  • sierra: Drowzee, Blaziken/Lapras/Sharpedo, Houndoom/Nidoqueen/Shiftry
  • Cliff: Cubone, Luxray/Electivir/Omastar, Tyranitar/Charizard/Swampert
  • Giovanni: Persian, Honchrow/Gyarados/Rhyperior and Latias
