In theory, Stadia allows affected players to enjoy their games at 1440p for two years. This is done automatically when the contact has a monitor with a resolution higher than 1080p but less than 4K. However, until now there was no option to configure the thing yet. definitions 3 years ago.
But now the wait seems to be over. For some users, the Performance menu has been showing an “up to 1440p” option for a few days, suggesting that global distribution is coming soon. As with many new features of the service, this one appears to be for Pro subscribers only. It consumes about 14.4GB of data per hour of gameplay.
Google finally lets Pro users play at 1440p
For comparison, the 1080p definition consumes 12.6GB of data per hour, while the 4K definition consumes 20GB per hour. Currently, it seems that the option is only available on PC. However, it looks like smartphones are also scheduled to launch in the coming months or weeks, as an update from last May suggested.
However, it is not possible to say that the option will also be available from Google TV and Chromecast. As for non-professional users, surprisingly they will have to make do with 1080p. So the 1440p definition joins the list of many advantages offered by the Pro subscription, such as games offered every month, 5.1 surround sound and HDR.
As of now, Google has not yet communicated on the subject. We’ll let you know when the option is officially available.
