The long-awaited Brazilian version of “Baldur’s Gate 3”, the latest release in the famous video game franchise RPGis in the midst of controversy due to a problem with the translation credits.
The company in charge, Altagram Group, is under scrutiny for not including the names of the translators who worked tirelessly to adapt the game for the Brazilian public.
The controversy in ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’
The imbroglio came to light through social media, specifically on Twitterwhen a user noticed the absence of translators’ names in the credits for “Baldur’s Gate 3”. In contrast, the list only contains the names of Altagram Group executives, which sparked a wave of outrage in the gaming community and industry professionals.
These translators, who over three years faced the challenge of translating more than 1 million words for the game, were excluded from the credits that recognize their hard and dedicated work.
This omission, compared to past incidents such as the case of omitted credits in “Diablo IV“, raised ethical questions and concerns about the lack of adequate recognition for professionals involved in game translation.
Fortunately, the game’s developer, Larian Studios, reacted quickly to the controversy. Michael Dousea, Larian Studios’ publishing director, announced that the issue will be resolved in the upcoming Hotfix 3 of the Patch 1 update. The company also contacted Altagram Group to resolve the impasse and ensure that the names of the Brazilian translators are properly included in the credits.
In a gesture of responsibility, Altagram Group issued a public apology via its Twitter account, acknowledging the error and committing to review its internal credit procedures. The names of the translators involved in the localization of the “Baldur’s Gate 3” will be added in a future patch of the game, as announced by the company.
Despite the credits hiccups, “Baldur’s Gate 3” remains one of the most anticipated releases of the year. After more than two decades since the last title in the series, the game finally offers fans the long-awaited sequel.
Currently available on PC, “Baldur’s Gate 3” is set to debut on PlayStation 5 on September 6, keeping gamers excited while the credits controversy is dealt with.
