In the FIFA 22 rating list, it is seen that Lionel Messi has once again been declared the best player in the world. (Relax, Ronaldo fans: it’s just a video game.) Indeed, there’s a debate for Robert Lewandowski who should be top of the line in FIFA 22. However, the Polish assassin needs to take the second place. Before we dig into the full FIFA 22 rating list for both male and female players, like Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema, we take a detailed look at the top seven below.
1. Lionel Messi (RW, Paris St-Germain) – 93
Moving from Barcelona to Paris, which apparently earned him a £25m registration fee, PSG’s new number 30 are looking to earn a fifth Champions League champion medal and a sixth Ballon d’Or next season. Messi’s core gold card in FIFA 22 features 85 pace, 92 shots, 91 passes and 95 dribbles, making it his third year to top the digital football charts.
2. Robert Lewandowski (ST, FC Bayern) – 92
Lewa, third on the FIFA 21 rating list, surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo after another absurdly effective campaign in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League. As of FIFA 22’s release date, he had scored 209 goals in 223 matches for Bayern, a staggering 48 of last season’s arrivals in just 40 games. His new card has 92 shots, 86 dribbles and 82 physicals. Good luck trying to defend him in Division Rivals.
3. Cristiano Ronaldo (ST, Manchester United) – 91
After marking his return to Manchester with a two-goal salvo against Norwich City, Portugal’s talisman has enjoyed a first year in the Premier League with a beast and a slew of FIFA 22 items as a result. Given the global obsession with running entire EPL squads in Ultimate Team, even the basic gold card sets you back millions. With 87 tempos, 93 shots, 82 passes and 88 dribbles, he slips out of the classroom.
4. Kevin de Bruyne (CM, Manchester City) – 91
de Bruyne joined Ronaldo as just two Premier League players in the top seven, but there are two other players just outside: Spurs and England captain Harry Kane (90) and full-action Chelsea midfielder N’golo Kante (also 90). A defensive rating of 64 should prevent de Bruyne from becoming commoditized, and those who choose the Belgian can enjoy 93 passes, 88 dribbles, 86 shots and 76 paces.
5. Kylian Mbappe (ST, Paris St Germain) – 91
Despite a disappointing Euro 2020 campaign where Mbappe missed the decisive point kick against Switzerland, he made his first-ever in the top five for football’s most famous wonder. French or not, it doesn’t matter to a single player lucky enough to reveal this card in FIFA 22: with 97 pace, 92 dribbling, 88 shooting and 80 passing, it’s sure to remain meta for the rest of next season.
6. Neymar Jr (LW, Paris St-Germain) – 91
Neymar’s gentle fall on this chart continues—largely due to Lewandowski and clubmate Mbappe’s flourishing on his side rather than any real-life setbacks. Despite this, his 91 speed rating makes this an expensive card in the winter, further bolstered by 94 dribbles, 86 passes and 83 shots. In one word: Brazilian.
7. Jan Oblak (GK, Atletico Madrid) – 91
With 92 controls, 90 reflexes and 90 positions, he narrowly avoids FIFA 22’s top-rated goalkeeper – 90-rated German couple Manuel Neuer and Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Euro 2020 champion Gianluigi Donnarumma (89). Oblak’s position here means that no defender has made it to the top seven; To find the best defender of the game, you need to go down to the 15th rank. Inevitably, at 89, Liverpool rock Virgil van Dijk is one GEN point less than what he won in FIFA 21.
